Who doesn’t love cocoa? I love it!
Especially on cold days, it makes me feel warm and cozy. Like sunlight that melts the snow. Quiet a feeling, right!
So when grandma gave me this homemade remedy for my annoying cough, I was very happy! Tasty and calming. And most importantly it did its magic.
After I try something this good I just have to share it with you. But first, I do a little research about the ingredients.
So as it follows, I’m giving you a few facts about why is nature your best medicine.
Cocoa is a highly valued food because of the polyphenols. These polyphenols give the main healing effect of cocoa.
In combination with honey and butter, it is great as prevention, as well as a remedy for colds and coughs. It has the ability to eliminate other illnesses, but also to prevent further development of the disease.
Cocoa improves circulation and blood quality and therefore leads to increased nutrition in the respiratory system. It stimulates metabolic processes: more oxygen and nutrients enter the lungs, and metabolites are more easily excreted.
Butter warms the body well, penetrates deep tissues, and coats the mucous membranes. In addition, it allows better dilution of thick mucus and easier expulsion from the bronchi.
This medicinal mixture can also be applied to the nasal mucosa to prevent bacterial and viral infections.
This yummy mixture can be spread on bread. Maybe even try it for the preparation of various sweet and healthy cakes.
It has an irresistible taste, so it is very difficult to stick to one spoon. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
The recipe is very simple and you can make it very quickly.

Recipe
Ingredients:
- 100 g unsalted butter,
- 100 g honey
- 33 g organic, quality cocoa (one-third of a 100-gram package).
*note: it is best to use organic honey and organic cocoa because commercial cocoa is full of sugar and very low of its nutrients.
Procedure:
Cut the butter into cubes and let it melt over very low heat. The temperature must not exceed 40 degrees so as not to lose its healing properties. Or melt in the microwave for a few seconds.
Add 100 g of honey and 33 g of cocoa to the melted butter. Mix all ingredients well, until you get a homogeneous, lump-free mixture. While the mixture is still lukewarm and almost liquid, store it in a glass jar. You should sterilize the jar before storing the mixture.
Store in the refrigerator. You can keep it in the fridge for 4 to 5 months. Once hardened, the mixture is thick and very dark in color.
When it comes to medicine for the respiratory system, any homemade quality honey can be used, but chestnut honey and forest honey (darker) have proven to be the best.
Use:
Take one teaspoon, three times a day as cough medicine. You can consume it like this, slowly melting in the mouth. Also, you can put it in warm milk and let it dissolve.
This recipe is natural and tasty even kids would like it. You can prepare this cough medicine for children over 2 years old.
The medicine can also be prepared with chocolate, as follows:
Ingredients:
- 100 g dark chocolate with a high percentage of cocoa,
- 3 tablespoons butter,
- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder,
- 5-6 tablespoons honey.
Procedure:
It is best to melt the chocolate in a spoonful of cocoa butter, and for that purpose, it should be grated. If you do not have cocoa butter, just melt the chocolate over low heat.
Then add three tablespoons of butter to it and continue to mix until the butter melts and blends into the mixture. Finally, add four tablespoons of organic cocoa powder and 5-6 tablespoons of honey. You can put honey to taste, depending on how sweet you want the mixture to be.
Once the mixture is well blended, store it in a glass jar and store it in the refrigerator.
It is used in the same way as the previous recipe. One teaspoon or one tablespoon, three times a day, and maybe more often during the cough. You can add it to a tea or warm milk.

There is a natural remedy for almost anything. We just have to be willing to prepare it and enjoy its taste and benefits.
