Coconut oil has proven itself as a very healthy ingredient with many strong benefits. It is rich in lauric acid, antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Coconut oil is also rich in vitamins and minerals that not only prevent infections and diseases but are a great provider of nutrients too. Many mouth and teeth related illnesses can be cured and improved with the use of coconut oil.

Lauric Acid Eliminates Mouth Bacteria
Different fatty acids have the ability to fight and kill bacteria, but the lauric acid is the most effective. Bacteria in the mouth causes bad breath, gingivitis and tooth decay.
Prevents Plaque Buildup and Gum Disease
Because of the antibacterial properties of the lauric acid, the buildup of plaque can be significantly decreased. Plaque is food debris in which the bacteria in the mouth thrive. It sticks to the teeth and the gums, and later causes decay of the teeth and gum inflammation known as gingivitis.
Improves Tooth Health
Coconut oil mouthwash fights off aerobic microorganisms that cause the plaque in the mouth.
The oil decreases the risk of tooth decay and improves the overall oral health by reducing the microorganisms. In addition, the fats improve the quality of the teeth bones and keep them white and shiny.
How to Use the Coconut Oil for Teeth Treatment
There are several ways how to use the coconut oil for tooth health. Here are two of them and you can choose which one suits you.
You can rinse your mouth with coconut oil, first thing in the morning, once you are up.
Before washing your teeth or before drinking anything. Use 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil and gently move around the mouth and between your teeth for about 20 seconds, and make sure you don’t swallow any of it.
The other way is to make toothpaste out of coconut oil.
These are the ingredients you will need:
- ½ cup of coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons of Sodium Bicarbonate
- 15 drops of peppermint essential oil
- a pinch of cinnamon (optional)
In a skillet, heat the coconut oil until it becomes liquid. Put the Sodium Bicarbonate and stir until it forms a paste consistency. Add the peppermint oil and the pinch of cinnamon. If you’d rather skip the cinnamon, don’t add it.
Store this paste in a sealed container.
When you want to use it, scoop with the toothbrush, brush for 2 minutes and rinse.
