Whenever your health is disturbed by the weather, the first remedy you think about is a cup of hot tea with a splash of lemon and honey. The combination of lemon and honey is widely known for cutting congestion and relieving the pain in your throat.
If you are having flu, a cold, sore throat or some allergy symptoms, we recommend the homemade throat drops.
It doesn’t matter what type of tea you’ll use for this recipe, either of them is suitable. You may use the black tea for its specific taste, but virtually any tea made of the Camellia sinensis plant is full of antioxidants. The tea used in this recipe is a sweet cinnamon Chai.
- loose leaf tea or bags (of any flavor)
- 1/2 cup raw honey – This Eco Bee Farms Raw Honey is the best
- 1 cup of hot water
Put the tea bag or the tea leaf in hot water and brew it. It should steep for 3-5 minutes if you want to brew a strong cup of tea. If you’re using loose tea leaf, strain the tea and pour it into a saucepan, preferably smaller one.
Cut the lemon in half, take one half and squeeze the juice into the pan.
Next thing to do, add the raw honey to the brewed tea.
Turn on your burner and boil this mixture rapidly until it reaches the hard crack stage (300 F). In case you do not have a candy, there is a cold water trick revealed below.
The mixture gradually reduces in volume and becomes thick and syrupy. To see whether it has reached the hard crack stage, test it by dropping a bit of the mixture into a bowl of ice water.
If the drop solidifies, then it’s ready.
Take a spoon and drop spoonfuls of the mixture on to a cookie sheet that is lined with parchment paper (if you don’t have parchment paper you can use silicone baking mat). When you’re finished, let it cool and harden.
Each of the hardened throat drops you made should be dropped between two pieces of parchment paper for storage. If they are a bit soft and didn’t get quite to the hard crack stage, do not worry. Just keep them in the refrigerator until needed.
